Forbo Flooring Sponsors 2010 Summer Intern!

We are pleased and honored to announce that Forbo Flooring Systems will be our 2010 internship sponsor. Although it can be considered a local business (its North American headquarters building is located in Hazleton, Pennsylvania), Forbo Flooring Systems is the global market leader in linoleum floor coverings, owning a market share of over 60%.

Forbo Flooring is one of those rare businesses committed to social and environmental responsibility, so its core values are reflected in the mission of the CLDS. Whether it is the design of the landscape or the materials installed in homes and businesses, each decision results in some impact to the environment. Our shared goals are to minimize that impact, look for long-term sustainable design solutions, and be the best stewards of the environment that we can possibly be.

CLDS Awarded Grant from the National Endowment for Arts!

The Center for Landscape Design & Stewardship is proud to announce that it was one of five applicants to be awarded with a nationally competitive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant will allow the CLDS to sponsor a  "Your Town" Workshop, which will be held September 30-October 2, 2010 at the Penn State Hazleton Campus.

This workshop will involve local municipal officials and other leaders throughout the community in
generating planning and design ideas for preserving and strengthening the regional identity of Lower Luzerne County, Pennsylvania through agriculturally-based heritage tourism.

Partners in this effort include the Pennsylvania State University Department of Landscape Architecture, the Department of
Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, and the  Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development. These partners will provide faculty to participate in the workshop, present information on relevant topics, and help coordinate student research and follow-up participation.
